FULL DESCRIPTION
A very fine George III solid mahogany dressing table made by hand in c. 1800 and retaining the original glass and other fittings, original handles and locks and in excellent original condition throughout.

The dressing table has a beautiful rich and natural colour and is exquisitely detailed with beaded borders carved in the solid. The craftsmanship is particularly high quality and the three frieze drawers are perfectly made and fitted with slender linings of mahogany and fine hand cut dovetails. Each has a solid ebony border and this is repeated to the fielded panels of the cupboard doors.

The left hand frieze drawer contains four original small handmade glass perfume bottles with original stoppers, a pin cushion for brooches and hair pins (with the original red velvet fabric cover which shows a little wear) and two lidded compartments each with beautiful and ornate gilt brass handles which match the main drawer handles. A further compartment has a framed lid to hold brushes and at the back is a further compartment.

The central drawer opens to reveal a double handled solid mahogany jewellery tray - a marvellous small piece of cabinet work in itself - with compartment below and three further flanking compartments - again each with solid mahogany lids and ornate gilt brass handles and a fourth with a shaped mahogany divider. The third frieze drawer is unfitted and has never had any fittings.

The drawers and cupboard doors all open and close smoothly and each cupboard contains two original adjustable shelves and each has a matching working key.

The condition throughout is excellent with no significant marks or repairs. Minor nibbles and dings and one glass bottle has some losses. No woodworm or other issues.

The dressing table has come from a private home where it has been for many years and it has been very well looked after. These owners had a full glass top made for it with polished edges and this is sold with the dressing table (with a few nibbles to the glass on the back corners).

Heavy and solid, the dressing table was made by a highly skilled cabinet maker between 1800 and 1820. A stunning dressing table in superior original condition and a very beautiful and practical piece of top quality Georgian furniture.
