FULL DESCRIPTION
A very rare and fine oak chest of high status. The doors, top and drawer front exuberantly inlaid with etched ivory and penwork decoration in the Romayne manner with multiple individual portraits, dogs and swans, geese and other birds and a variety of fish, animals and mythological beasts. 

Further inlays of mother of pearl, walnut, satinwood, ebony and with ivory and ebony stringing and with a beautiful rich colour to the oak.

The doors open on to three original full oak drawers on side inset runners and with original hand forged iron snaped handles. Original linings with nailed up bottom and back boards.

The side panels of geometric and gothic design.

A superb example, extremely rare, some minor 19th century restorations and one set of hinges replaced with Victorian iron hinges.

A superb example and a beautiful and rare early chest.
