FULL DESCRIPTION
A particularly fine quality writing table in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster and London, with numerous unusual and bespoke made elements including solid mahogany pull out slides to each side, solid mahogany full width slide which extends the surface area of the desk, superbly made superstructure of small drawers and full oak and mahogany lined drawers with military style locks and escutcheons. All set on fluted and turned legs with slender ankles and original small brass casters.

One large central frieze drawer is flanked by two small drawers with to the left and a double depth drawer with dummy front to the right - this opens to reveal a front compartment and a second lockable compartment with original mahogany slide which pulls forward to conceal this lock.

Gillows produced furniture from 1730 and a very large proportion of its furniture was not signed or stamped so we rely on design, quality and fittings to identify it. This is most certainly of Gillows quality and design and has solid brass high quality casters, locks and escutcheons.

Complete and original including the small turned mahogany handles to the upper cabinet. Excellent original condition with only minor marks, dings and bruises. The leather skivers are later and these are beautifully fitted in a lovely rich old gold colour with bright gold tooled and embossed borders and with no wear or damage. Drawers and slides pull out smoothly and close easily and properly.

Extremely sturdy, practical and usable, lots of space for laptops and papers.

Strongly recommended.
