FULL DESCRIPTION
An unusual 19th Century solid walnut cupboard incorporating four 16th century carved elements, possibly taken from a Late Medieval Aumbry and including an exceptionally rare and important early 16th century carved walnut panel featuring a pair of beautiful and highly stylised wyvern flanking a Romayne profile of a Greek winged god. The panel very similar in form to those from Waltham Abbey, the cushion shaped roundel carved with geometric patterning.

Flanking the panel are two early oak pillars, one carved with winged cherubs, leaves, pomegranates, vines and at the capital a quiver of arrows, the other with a gargoyle, oak leaves, and vines and at the capital the Tudor rose.

Around the top of the cupboard is an incorporated section of carved ivy leaves, each one beautiful and uniquely carved.

The cupboard itself is entirely usable and substantial - extremely heavy and well made. The door opens on original brass riveted hinges to a large open compartment with single removable shelf. Some marks and bruises consistent with age and use, the central panel and ivy border 16th in fine condition, the columns - particularly the right hand column, with some small surface losses and a small number of old worm holes (long since dead).
