FULL DESCRIPTION
A fine and handsome 18th Century Gainsborough chair in solid mahogany and of generous proportions. Made by a skilled hand, the chair has a simple original frame with sweeping arms, gently raked back, straight legs to the front and hocked legs at rear with chamfered inner faces and united by an offset box stretcher. Very well padded and extremely comfortable, the chair has been newly upholstered in a heavyweight pure silk antique upholstery gold fabric which I bought locally having been found covered in a loft and still on the roll - I think it dates from around 1900 and is of wonderful quality and a rich beautiful pure gold colour.

The frame original with no later timbers but with some marks, dings and small restorations consistent with age and careful use and reflected in our price.

An eye-catching example, very comfortable and in good usable condition
