FULL DESCRIPTION
A well carved Great chair of large proportions and in very good condition with no loose joints and peg jointed throughout. Well carved guilloche top rail centred with a pin wheel, nulled mid rail and seat rails, the back panel with losenge outlined with the flying ribbons typically found on early Yorkshire oak. All surmounted by a winged angel and flanked by carved herms.

The arms are elm and have a beautiful scrolled terminal and a lovely patina and punched decoration along their length - this punched decoration repeated also to seat rails and back. The two board seat with thumbnail edge.

The chair is principally original and 17th century with dents, marks, losses and wear consistent with age and more than 300 years of caring use. There is old woodworm to the inner faces of both arms and a few holes here and there - all long since treated and completely dead and not affecting structure.

A very handsome and heavy chair of large proportions, completely robust and usable and a particularly good colour.
