FULL DESCRIPTION
A very beautiful early Georgian figured walnut bureau c. 1740 with many finer quality details including featherbanded borders to the fall, top, main drawers and interior drawers, and double mouldings around fall and curved dividers to the drawers.

The sides panels deeply crossbanded and the veneers beautiful bookmatched throughout. The two frieze over two long drawers are all oak lined and with original locks and a single early or original working key. The fall with matching early key and original three lever brass lock. All of the drawers open and close smoothly and are solid and robust.

The very fine interior with a series of pigeon holes and stepped oak lined drawers with original brass button handles and original hinges, small secret drawer over central alcove. The inner face of the fall with an olive green gold tooled leather in very good condition. The brass batwing handles are replacements for the original drop handles but are soft edged from use and great age and have been on this bureau for a very long time indeed.

The fall opens smoothly to rest firm and level on the oak lopers. The interior well with original walnut and featherbanded slide.

All on original bracket feet and with original boards to back. Minor dings and marks and slight shrinkage of the veneers here and there as is entirely right for age and attractive in character, all adding to the very good patination and superb colour

A very good early walnut bureau of lovely proportions and of a desirably small size.
