FULL DESCRIPTION
With a spectacular colour, this 18th century figured mahogany corner cupboard was made by a skilled cabinet maker in around 1790.

The upper case with three fixed and shaped shelves, the lower case with two larger fixed shelves. Very thick mahogany veneers throughout in excellent condition and with beautiful patination. The solid brass H hinges are original and very strong. The doors open and close smoothly and easily and there is a working key.

A small loss to the upper left hand side of the cornice. Minor dings, marks and restorations consistent with age and careful use. Locks are 19th century.

Both the upper arched ogee cornice and central ogee waist moulding appears to have originally been japanned or gilded as some gilding is still visible beneath a crazed lacquer and the plinth may originally have been similarly decorated.

Upper and lower doors with raised low arched panel in the medieval manner, walnut crossbanded and flanked by raised, fielded and crossbanded panels set in beautifully shaped borders and crossbanded in walnut. The upper case door flanked by deeply carved classical reeding.

Low countries, probably Dutch, the beautiful wide bow front is a rare and high quality detail. The timbers all shaped by hand held tools and the backboards with visible adze marks. Original lacquer finish to the interior. Upper case lifts off lower case for transport.

A stunning example, with genuine "wow" factor. Delightful and practical as a drink/cocktail cabinet, a bookcase or general storage.
