FULL DESCRIPTION
A fine quality George II bureau/slant fronted desk of superior colour and deep original patina and retaining original brass handles. The three principal graduated drawers dressed with well figured walnut and each inlaid with two featherbanded borders. The top, fall and interior well cover of the bureau with matching paired featherbanded inlays and retaining all original oak linings in very good and sound condition.

Unusual and particularly lovely fitted interior, each small drawer with slender oak linings and with very striking satinwood inlays with well developed rich colour and excellent patination to the walnut throughout. The fall opens smoothly and rests level and firm on the small original oak lopers and the writing surface is inset with a shaped olive green leather skiver in excellent condition also and with a gold tooled border. The central pigeon hole with small secret drawer over and flanked by two secret drawers. The right hand drawer retaining original divisions for ink bottles. Very heavy and robust with original backboards and bottom boards. The side panels with deeply crossbanded borders and with book matched well figured walnut.

Condition: One escutcheon is later, handles original throughout. Some restorations to the veneers - very old and nothing significant. Feet are old replacements and there is a slight bow to the interior well cover but not affecting use. Evidence of old worm in small areas, old and long since dead.

A beautiful example of a most attractive colour and proportion, strongly recommended.
